Time to put my holiday home owner’s hat on and to share with you what I’m focussing on during May.
These areas will be my key focus:
Looking at my availability going forward – something I encourage you to do at the start of each month. I have the first 2 week in July free. Although all schools haven’t yet broken up, these are still priced at my peak rate. I’m confident I’ll fill them but I’ll need to put some work into this.
To start with I’m going to offer these weeks to my e-newsletter subscribers at the high season rate instead of peak, so saving them £100. At the same time, I’ll promote on my Facebook page (without the discount). I promise my email subscribers, subcriber-only deals, so it’s important I hold true to this.
If there are no takers, from mid-May I’ll offer the £100 discount to all. I’ll boost the post and I may need to do a paid Facebook ad too, targetted at a warm audience.
I think May is my favourite time in the cottage garden. I love the alliums, bluebells and some of the late tulips are still in bloom . Just look a this pic from last May:
I need to get talking about this on social media, not necessarily to get May bookings (I only have one weekend available) but to really sell the cottage garden as the beautiful asset it is. I’ll share other’s social media content too around the general gardening theme, to enhance this message.
At the end of every month I also look for “guest quirks” as I call them. Snippets of info I’ve picked up from guests, from meeting them, speaking to them or emailing them. Information I’ll use next time I get in touch with them, to make that contact much more personal. This task is made so much more fun if you journal it in a pretty notebook such as this:
My website revamp is in full swing behind the scenes and going live Friday 28 April (all being well). Check out the new home page: www.thebusinessofholidayrental.com
Please bear with me as I make the changes and if you find any links that don’t work – please let me know. I want the new website to reflect me and my personality and have a more friendly, personal feel than my old website. I’d love to know your thoughts.
Wishing you all a happy May and enjoy the two bank holidays. You’ll have to wait until August for the next one!
